It was a perfect star lit night that was enhanced with little fairy lights on the trees that gave the entire Primary school grounds such a festive air. The evening was special to all of us Bridgetines when that Past Pupils’ Association celebrated St. Bridget’s day on 01st February 2013 in such a simple but elegant fashion. Rev. Sr. M. Thomas Aquinas graced this special occasion as the Guest of Honour.
Prior to the evening function the PPA members together with Past Teachers and several Sisters gathered at the Convent chapel to attend Holy Mass for which the celebrant and preacher was Rev. Fr. Anjelo Wijewickrema. The choir led by Priyanthi Seneviratne Van dort sang all the hymns lustily and the entire congregation present joined in with much enthusiasm to sing the Hymn to St. Bridget at the end.
The evening’s program was attended by Rev. Sr. Solange Fernando our Patroness, the Principals of all 3 schools, Rev. Sr. Shermila Jayawardena, Rev. Sr. Alexandra Mendis and Rev. Sr. Remona Nugara and several other Sisters from the Convent. We were also very happy to have with us several Past Principals viz. Rev. Sr. M. Hilda Fernando, Rev. Sr. Renuka Silva and Rev. Sr. M. Immaculate De Alwis.
The evening commenced with a Welcome Address by the President Dr. Nirmala M. Pieris, a short presentation on Sr. Thomas Aquinas by Ms. Sharmini Mendis, which was followed by a special Tribute song to Sr. Thomas by Priyanthi and her choir. The address by Sr. Thomas was filled with appreciation and was so inspiring and so lovingly delivered. Jayani Wickremanayake, Jt. Secretary PPA did a perfect job as the Master of Ceremonies. |
After much mingling and renewing friendships with classmates and Sr. Thomas the evening ended with dinner well after 9.00pm.
The event was the first, held outdoors on St. Bridget’s Day. Almost 350 members of the PPA attended and we received so many appreciative comments viz. Thank you for and amazing evening, Very well organized!! Really enjoyed, fantastic, Cheers to the President and committee, You are certainly a super team, you put up a good show yesterday and we did enjoy ourselves thoroughly, A super evening well done dinner was very good. Sister Thomas deserve a felicitation like this Nirmala, Thank you Nirmala you and your team have set very high standards. Hope to see all of you again for the year 2013, Thank you Nirmala and the gang for that wonderful evening. Keep the Green and White flag flying high in 2013/2014 too with more fun-filled events, Lovely idea to have it at the School grounds, We did enjoy the Feast day celebrations! A big "thank you" to you & the team for organising yet another successful event, Sincerely appreciate all the time and effort taken by the Committee in organising such get-togethers etc. etc.
We thank the many, many members who expressed their appreciation and assure the membership that we will continue to do our best for the PPA and the members.
