Bridgetine Fire

Ramada Colombo was ablaze with excitement on the 28th of September, with the Bridgetines, their families and friends singing with gusto and dancing with gay abandon at the Bridgetine Fire organized by the Past Pupils Association of the school.  The theme ‘fire’ was well in evidence, the hall being festooned with orange, red and yellow lanterns, complemented by black tablecloths and gold bows. Sohan & the X’periments provided the music, with Sohan hosting the show, along with Naarzima, a past Bridgetine.

While singing dominated the programme, short competitions provided some variety and amusement. The ‘if’ couple and  ‘of’ couple,  the table having the most number of men, the lady with shortest dress, and the loudest table being among  them. It was gratifying to see the numbers who volunteered to participate in these, making the selections a little difficult.  This was no doubt partly due to the wines served by the house, making even the most intrepid, bolder. The dinner was served in buffet style mid way, during the programme, and was proclaimed by the guests to be delicious.

Rev Sister Superior, Sr Solange Fernando graced the occasion, along with several other sisters, and their enjoyment was only too apparent, when they were seen engulfed with laughter at the pithy comments of Sohan and racy jokes by the guest artiste, Ronnie Lietch.  A ticket draw was held with valuable prizes being given.

The committee would also like to acknowledge the valuable role played by their many sponsors, without whom the event would not have been possible, and also the Bridgetine sisters Raina and Raisa, who took great pains to ensure the success of the event.

To end with the words of a senior Bridgetine ‘I have been to so many sing – a- longs, but this was the best of them all.’  That says it all.
