In an effort to have an overall positive impact on the Community, one of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Projects focused on the Perakuwatana Sinhala Vidyalaya in Perakuwatana, Kottantivu. The school is situated in the North Western Province of the country in a small village located approximately 22km before Puttalam. It is a mixed school of 174 children with classes from Grade 1 to Grade 9.  The school has minimum facilities for the extremely underprivileged children who come from very distant places to attend classes. To give these children (aged 5+ to 14+) some hope and relief, our Association has provided assistance to this school for the past few years. At present we support 3 children to attend O-level and A-level classes in other schools and we also provided an allowance to a Trainee Teacher.

On the 24th of October a group of us visited the school with a van load of stuff that included shoes & socks(for all the children), school needs such as books, pencils, pens and goodies etc. etc. also a bicycle for 2 girls (sisters) who were walking 10km to school daily basis. We also support an agricultural project through which the school earns some money for extra needs. The children were in their best clothes (with ties etc. all for our visit) so happy and so was the lone determined Sister who co-ordinated with us, the Principal and the Teachers, but more than all of them we were so happy that we could bring smiles and joy to these 174 children.  We will continue to assist the school.

The way forward - we will try to raise some funds(a total of Rs. 200,000/-)  to build up the floor of the little hall of the school that accommodates 2 classes that has broken so much that 2 class rooms are in sandy patches, totally perished. We have set up a modest Computer Centre with five Computers we have received from Associated Motorways (Pvt) Ltd. (AMW) who replaced some of their 4 year old computers with new computers due to system requirements of a new software system they are implementing. The computers have been transported and installed. The AMW contribution which is an asset to the school is much appreciated. Two dongles were also received from Etisalat Pvt Ltd. and a printer, and computer tables were donated by the PPA
